Gaza Ceasefire Violations — An Israeli drone strike on the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza killed a municipal worker and wounded two others on Saturday, the latest in a string of deadly incidents that have left nearly 1,000 Palestinians dead since a ceasefire was declared in October.
The victim was identified as Muawiya al-Aydi, a local municipality employee. A separate Israeli strike injured at least one person at a gathering in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City the same day. Gaza’s Health Ministry confirmed at least two Palestinians were killed and 11 injured across the territory in the preceding 48 hours alone, bringing the cumulative toll since the ceasefire to 983 killed and 3,122 injured.
The ceasefire has been technically in force since October, yet Israeli military operations have continued with regularity. More than half of Gaza now falls under Israeli military control, a territorial reality that has become a central point of contention between the two sides.

Hamas accused Israel on Friday of systematically undermining the agreement. Spokesman Hazem Qassem charged that Israeli forces had shifted the so-called "Yellow Line" — the boundary demarcating Israeli-controlled zones within Gaza — in what he described as a deliberate effort to expand the military footprint beyond what the ceasefire permits. Qassem stated plainly that Israel had demonstrated no willingness to implement the terms of the agreement.
The violence was not confined to Gaza. Across the occupied West Bank, Saturday brought a wave of Israeli military raids and settler attacks that underscored the breadth of the ongoing conflict. Israeli forces deployed stun grenades and tear gas during an operation at Dheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem, while also blocking Palestinian access to the historic Solomon’s Pools reservoirs in the same area.
Raids were also conducted in the Palestinian towns of Tuqu, Immatain, Jit and Beita, where clashes erupted between Israeli forces and local residents. Near-daily military operations in the West Bank have become a fixture of the conflict since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Settler violence compounded the military activity. In separate incidents near Bethlehem, Israeli settlers assaulted Palestinian electrical workers, stole water pipes, and vandalised property. A road connecting the towns of Arraba and Ya’bad was blockaded by settlers, while in the town of Jit, settlers set fire to farmland and vehicles.
Gaza Ceasefire Violations: Regional Implications
In the town of Duma, near Hebron, a disabled Palestinian man was shot and injured. Israeli police attributed the shooting to an Israeli settler, stating the settler claimed to have felt threatened after the man picked up a rock. The incident drew immediate attention given the victim’s disability and the circumstances described.
The pattern of events reflects a conflict that, despite the formal ceasefire framework, continues to exact a heavy toll on Palestinian civilians across both Gaza and the West Bank. With Hamas maintaining that Israel is actively dismantling the ceasefire’s terms and Israeli military operations showing no sign of abating, the gap between the agreement on paper and conditions on the ground remains vast.
Broader regional tensions persist in parallel. Diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran over a potential nuclear deal are reported to be advancing, with both sides indicating an agreement may be within reach — a development that carries significant implications for the wider Middle East security environment in which the Gaza conflict is embedded.
