Israel Shooting Attack — A shooting attack in central Israel killed at least one person and wounded five others on Sunday, triggering a sweeping security operation that included raids on Arab communities and a high-level assessment by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
The violence erupted at a gas station at the entrance to the Kochav Yair area, a residential community situated close to the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya. The attacker then continued firing at the entrances to the nearby towns of Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan, extending the zone of danger across multiple communities before Israeli security forces intervened.
A 35-year-old man died of his gunshot wounds, becoming the sole fatality of the assault. Two of the five wounded are in serious condition, and all casualties were transported to two hospitals for treatment. Emergency responders from Magen David Adom, Israel’s national rescue service, were already conducting a large training exercise in a nearby community when the shooting was reported — a coincidence that allowed for a rapid medical response. Paramedics discovered one unconscious casualty inside a vehicle near the gas station, pulseless and not breathing, with visible gunshot wounds. A second injured person was found conscious beside the vehicle, suffering gunshot wounds to the upper body.
